How to Create Models for Poser
One of the fastest growing communities on the Internet is made up of 3D render enthusiasts. These talented amateurs use 3D models to create rendered graphics and animations that they then post online for others to see and appreciate. Poser (marketed by Smith Micro) is often used to create these renders. Poser comes with a series of figures you can pose for renders. Some people like to create their own 3D models for use in Poser. If you want to create your own model props (like a plastic table, for instance) for use in Poser, you will need a good modeling program, such as Daz3D's Hexagon. The techniques used will apply to most 3D modeling programs.

1
Sketch out your ideas for the props you will be creating. You will want to have a good idea of what you are planning to create before you start modeling; otherwise, you will waste time and perhaps make a mistake that will make you have to start over.
-
2
Open Hexagon. Select the "Primitives" tab at the top. Click the "Cube" primitive. Use the mouse to draw the cube out in the scene. Reduce the height of the cube by clicking on the green "Scale" cube you see in the "Universal Manipulator" tool and pulling it down. You want it to be the right thickness for your table top.

-
3
Change the "Selection Mode" to "edges" and select all the edges of the table top. Click the "Surface Modeling" tab and select "Chamfer." In the panel on the upper right, make the chamfer about "25."
-
4
Change the view from "Perspective" to "Bottom." Click the "Vertex Modeling" tab and select the "Slice Tessellation" tool. Use the tool to create slices along the bottom edges so that you end up with four square corner polygons. Click "Validate." Hold down the "Shift" key and select the four corner polygons. Change the view back to "Perspective."
-
5
Select the "Extrude Surface" tool and use it to extend to polygons out to make the legs. As you bring them down, you can taper the ends if you wish. Click "Validate."
-
6
Click the "Materials/Shading Domain" tab on the left. Click the "Unassigned" domain and click "New Domain." Rename the new domain "Table." Go to the "Materials" section and change the color to a dark blue.
-
7
Click File > Export > Wavefront OBJ. Name the file table and save it.
-
8
Open Poser. Select File > Import > Wavefront OBJ. Browse to the table and open it. When it comes in, you will probably have to use the "Scale" function in the "Parameter Dials" to resize it.
