It may be necessary to adjust the rollers on a patio screen door to remove it, or simply get it to roll easily and fit against the jamb. Roller adjustments are usually needed for fit and functioning after the initial door installation. Enjoy the convenience of sliding screen doors that work properly by adjusting the rollers for maximum performance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Slotted screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Locate the roller adjustment set screws. The adjustment screw for a roller may protrude above the wheel, or be set in a hole of the frame that's located either on the edge that meets the jamb or the side of the frame.

  2. Step 2

Determine which way to turn the set screw to move the roller in and out. Set screws above the wheel and in holes on the jamb edge will move the rollers outward with a clockwise turn and retract them with counterclockwise turns. Set screws in the side of the frame often move the rollers outward with counterclockwise turns. Turn the set screw on a lower roller with a slotted screwdriver and watch the frame to see if it rises or drops.

  3. Step 3

Position the screen door. Use the jamb to set the screen door level and at the correct height. Make the door meet the jamb evenly from top to bottom with the latch at the height of the locking bar. Set the upper and lower rollers to allow sliding the screen door easily from this position.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep the tracks clean under screen doors to avoid soil build-up in the rollers. Use a spray lubricant on the roller axles to enhance smooth rolling.
