Carefully check around the fan assembly to see what components you may need to remove to simplify the electric fan removal and installation process. Some Chevy models come equipped with a double fan assembly. For example, note any wiring harness or lines attached to the fan frame and remove them as needed. After that, it's time to install the new fan.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ratchet and socket set
  • Floor jack and 2 jack stands, if necessary

    Removing the Electric Fan

  1. Step 1

Disconnect the ground battery cable using a wrench.

  2. Step 2

Remove the upper radiator shroud using the ratchet and socket.

  3. Step 3

Take the ducts off from the air cleaner assembly, if you need room to remove the electric fan assembly.

  4. Step 4

Detach the A/C line hold-down bolt from the fan shroud, if necessary, using a ratchet and socket.

  5. Step 5

Unplug the fan electrical connector. Unscrew the two upper bolts from the fan assembly using the ratchet and socket.

  6. Step 6

Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support it on two jack stands, if your model has these lower mounting bolts. On some Chevy models, the fan-mounting frame is secured to the radiator support by clips. After unscrewing the top mounting bolts, slide the fan assembly off the clips and engine compartment without raising the car.

  7. Step 7

Unscrew the two lower mounting bolts using the ratchet and socket. Remove the fan assembly from the engine compartment.

  8. Step 8

Detach the fan from the mounting frame using a ratchet and socket.

  9. Installing the Electric Fan

  10. Step 1

Attach the new electric fan to the mounting frame using the ratchet and socket.

  11. Step 2

Position the fan assembly on the engine compartment.

  12. Step 3

Tighten the lower mounting bolts using the ratchet and socket. If your Chevy model is equipped with clips, make sure the assembly frame is properly secured in the clips.

  13. Step 4

Lower the vehicle if you had to raise it.

  14. Step 5

Screw the two upper mounting bolts using the ratchet and socket. Plug the fan electrical connector.

  15. Step 6

Attach the A/C line hold-down bolt to the fan shroud, if necessary, using the ratchet and socket. Install the ducts to the air cleaner assembly, if you removed them.

  16. Step 7

Install the upper radiator shroud using the ratchet and socket. Connect the ground battery cable using the wrench.
