Hold the cane close to your body in the hand on the side of your uninjured foot.

Move the cane and your injured foot forward at the same time. Keep the cane directly across from the instep of your injured foot.

Step forward with your uninjured foot.

Continue walking by repeating Steps 2 and 3.
Going Up Stairs

Grab a handrail with your free hand if possible.

Step up the stair with your uninjured foot.

Step up the stair with the injured foot and the cane simultaneously.

Continue climbing up the stairs by repeating Steps 1 through 3.
Going Down Stairs
