How to Repair a Cracked Pond
Ponds provide beautiful centerpieces for backyards and patios. They act as a place to keep fish and as a peaceful spot to sit and meditate. Ponds are not nearly as peaceful when you walk out your backdoor to find that much of the water has drained out. When this happens, it is likely that you have a crack in the concrete on your pond. While repairing a cracked pond is not easy, it should be manageable as long as you think ahead and have the right tools on hand. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Pump the water out of your pond and allow it to dry thoroughly before proceeding. Be sure that you drain the water into an appropriate area where it will not cause flooding or other water damage.
-
2
Mix 1 gallon of warm water with 1 cup of bleach and sponge the mixture onto your pond to kill any algae that is growing and to ensure that you are working with a clean surface.
-
-
3
Rinse the pond twice with clear water in order to remove any traces of bleach. Allow the pond to dry completely once you have finished rinsing it.
-
4
Use your saw to slightly widen and even out the crack in your concrete pond. This will make the crack easier to work with and the shape easier to manage.
-
5
Carefully fill the crack with epoxy designed for use with concrete. You should also put epoxy over the top of the crack, extending 1 inch in every direction from the crack to add extra reinforcement to the area.
-
6
Allow the epoxy to dry and cure for 48 hours to ensure that it is completely set before refilling your pond. After 48 hours, you may fill the pond with water and use it normally.
