How to Clean a Rusted Weight Set
Just because those old weights are covered in rust doesn't mean they won't work anymore. Revive that weight set and keep it rust-free. With a little scrubbing, you will be lifting weights again in no time.
Things You'll Need
- Rust remover, such as Borax
- Cloth
- Tub
- Warm water
- Scrubbing pads or wire scrubber
Instructions
-
-
1
Depending on the level of rust, wipe down the weights with warm water or soak them in a tub.
-
2
Mix rust remover (Borax or powdered cleaner) and warm water to make a paste-like mixture. Using a cloth, rub it onto the rust spots on the weights.
-
-
3
For stubborn spots, use a wire brush or scrubbing pad, making sure you don't remove any of the original paint from the weights.
-
4
Rinse the plates with warm water. Let them air-dry, or wipe dry with a cloth.
-
5
Maintain the weights by removing signs of rust as soon as you discover them.
