How to Make Eye Glasses Chains

An eyeglass chain is the easy solution to the never-ending problem of "Where did I put my glasses?" With an eyeglass chain the answer always will be around your neck. Involving little technical skill and a few simple materials, you easily can make make a unique, personalized eyeglass chain for yourself or a a friend.

  • Beads
  • Beading thread
  • Scissors
  • Towel or beading tray
  • Super Glue
  • 2 double-cup knot covers
  • needle-nose pliers
  • eyeglass-chain findings

Instructions

    • 1

      Choose the style and color beads that you want to use for your chain. See Reference 1 below for ideas.

      Arrange them on a towel or beading tray in the order that you will string them.

      Cut the beading thread to the desired length. Use 26 inches minimum, 34 inches for a longer chain.

      Stiffen one end of the thread with a dab of superglue to make it easier to thread the beads.

      Let the glue dry before you begin to thread your beads.

      Thread the beads one at a time in the pattern that you designed.

      Tie several knots at one end of the thread when you are done beading. Use Super Glue to make sure the knot is secure.

      Attach one of the knot covers, adding another dab of glue inside.

      Use needle nose pliers to squeeze the knot cover closed over the knot.

      Let the glue dry.

      Slide all the beads down against the secure end and proceed to knot, glue and secure the opposite end with the second knot cover and Super Glue. Make sure to tie your end knot as close to the end bead as possible.

      Attach the eyeglass findings (See Reference 2) to the knot covers on either side.

      Use the needle-nose pliers to close the knot cover hooks around the rings of the eyeglass findings.

      To wear the chain, slip the eyeglass findings over the sides arms of the eyeglasses.
