It never seems to fail. When you open a bottle of wine, you can almost bet a stain will appear somewhere before the night is through. In many cases, this wine stain will end up on your clothing -- your favorite shirt, your best skirt and that expensive jacket are all prime targets for that wine stain. Now is the time to arm yourself with the knowledge to beat that stain. Learning how to get wine stains out of clothes will give you the confidence of knowing you will not have to throw away another garment because of a wine stain.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Salt
  • Terry cloth
  • Club soda
  • Mild detergent
  1. Step 1

Place salt on the stain as soon as possible. The salt will not let the wine settle into the garment.

  2. Step 2

Blot the stain with a clean, dry terry cloth. Remove as much of the stain as possible. Do not rub the affected area. This can cause the wine to spread over more fabric and will rub the stain deeper into the material.

  3. Step 3

Pour plain club soda onto the stain, covering it completely. The carbonation in the soda will get between the fibers and push the stain out.

  4. Step 4

Blot the area with a clean, dry terry cloth. Continue pouring soda and blotting it up until no more color is transferring to the terry cloth.

  5. Step 5

Mix warm water and a mild detergent to create a sudsy mixture. Use a damp cloth and blot the area. The detergent removes sugar particles left behind by the soda and wine.

  6. Step 6

Place paper towels below and on top of the used-to-be-stain. Place something heavy on the paper towels and let it sit over night. This will remove any remaining moisture.

  7. Step 7

    Launder the garment as usual.
