How to Choose a Quiet Dishwasher
If your home has a noisy dishwasher, it sometimes seems the only good time to wash dishes is when no one is there. A loud dishwasher can drown out the television or stereo or disturb those trying to work or do homework. Even running the dishwasher after you go to bed can backfire, as the noise echoes through a silent home, sounding louder than ever. If you're ready to purchase a new dishwasher, consider the noise level. Choosing a quiet dishwasher takes some legwork, but you'll enjoy the results. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the space in your kitchen where the dishwasher is contained.
-
2
Create a list of all the features you wish to have in your new dishwasher.
-
-
3
Search the Internet to locate brands and models that meet your space requirements and have the desired features. Note the prices of dishwashers that meet all your criteria.
-
4
Check the decibel rating. It often is not available on the product website, so call or visit appliance stores. The decibel rating usually can be found in the owner's manual. Ask a salesperson to obtain this information for you if an owner's manual is not on display with each model.
-
5
Compare the decibel ratings of the dishwashers that meet your other criteria. You want the lowest decibel rating possible. Low-end, noisy dishwashers have decibel ratings of 60 and above, but more expensive, quieter models have decibel ratings in the low 40s. Choose the dishwasher with the lowest decibel rating you can afford.
