How to Get to the Boot Manager on a Mac OS10

In Mac OS X, the boot manager is known as the "Startup Manager." Like any other boot utility, the Startup Manager allows you to specify which device or hard disk partition from which you wish to boot. Compatible boot devices include flash drives, DVDs and internal or external hard drives. The Startup Manager is useful when you have more than one operating system installed on a computer, or when you need to boot from a disk other than the default.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apple has also released a program called "Boot Camp" that allows you to install 32-bit Windows operating systems on Intel-based Macs running OS X. A Boot Camp icon will appear in your Windows Control Panel, which you can use to configure your boot options.

  • You can also install other boot managers, such as the freeware rEFIt. REFIt works on Intel-based Macs and permits triple-boot operating systems. It is also compatible with Boot Camp.
