How to Soak Green Bean Seeds
Dried seeds are in a period of dormancy, meaning that they will not grow unless exposed to hospitable conditions. A seed is germinated when the seed coat is moistened and softened, which stimulates growth.
The term "chitting" refers to soaking seeds in water before planting. Chitting is beneficial to the home gardener because it cuts down the germination time of seeds, creates a quicker-growing mature plant and allows for only successful seeds to be planted.
