How to Store Contacts From a Phone Online

Losing your cell phone can be one of the most frustrating and nerve-wracking parts of modern life, and the more advanced cell phones get, the more difficult it is to replace the things we have on them. Developers are hard at work, however, creating programs and websites that can store your phone's contact information online, so that even if your phone is gone, your contacts are right there for you to upload into a new one.

Things You'll Need

  • Cell Phone with any type of Internet connectivity
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Account with online contact data program such as Soocial

Instructions

    • 1

Open your browser and navigate to the Soocial Web site (See Resources). Select the "Sign up now!" option and enter in the basic required information.

    • 2

Open your email client and click the link provided by the confirmation email sent to you by Soocial. You will be signed in to your account and given the option to add various connections to have contacts stored from.

    • 3

Select "Add a phone" and choose your type of cell phone. IPhones and Blackberries have separate adding options.

    • 4

Locate the options for synchronization in your phone's menu options and enter the information provided on the Soocial page.

    • 5

Enable contacts synchronization on your phone. The contacts will update to your Soocial profile automatically. IPhone and Blackberry users follow the application instructions on the Soocial page for adding those devices.

    • 6

Log into your Soocial account and select the "Contacts" tab at the upper-right of the page. Your contacts will be listed in a searchable field at the middle of the page, and will be available online on your profile at any time. You can also create contact groups or new contacts that will sync with your phone from your Soocial profile.

Tips & Warnings

  • There will likely be more programs like this popping up in time, but Soocial has the simplest interface and is free. Other programs, like Zyb, which also used to provide free online contact storage, have been bought or converted to a paid service. Also, if you're leery of using a service, you can always use your phone's contact importer to your computer and create a Google doc to keep the information, but this will be more work.

  • As with all things online, be mindful of privacy agreements with any service that is storing your personal information.
