How to Apply a Pegboard Wall Covering
Pegboard has many applications, such as hanging tools in a garage, workshop or just about any room in the home, such as the kitchen. This type of storage option can be installed as is or painted to be decorative and blend in with a room. Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Straight edge
- Sawhorses
- Circular saw
- Power drill
- Screws
- Stud finder
- Furring strips
- Washers

Measure the wall you want to cover with the pegboard using a tape measure. Find the length and width of the wall to determine how much of the wall you want to cover with the pegboard.

Transfer the measurements to a sheet of pegboard and mark the pegboard with a pencil where it needs to be cut.

Place a straight edge over the marks and make a straight line with the pencil.

Set the sheet of pegboard on sawhorses and cut along the line with a circular saw.

Place the sheet of pegboard on the wall to make sure it fits properly.

Secure the pegboard sheet to the wall studs using a power drill and screws. Place a washer on the screw and then insert it through one of the pegboard holes.

Locate the wall studs by using a stud finder and make a mark on the wall to indicated the stud location.

Place furring strips on the wall so that there is a gap between the pegboard and the wall. Secure the furring strips with finishing nails. Make sure you nail into the wall studs.

Place the sheet of pegboard on the wall to make sure it fits properly.

Secure the pegboard sheet to the furring strips using a power drill and screws. Place a washer on the screw and insert it into one of the pegboard holes. Secure the screw by tightening it with the power.

Tips & Warnings
Furring strips need to be at least ¼ inch to allow for hooks to be inserted into the pegboard.
You can also use nails instead of screws to secure the pegboard to the studs.
Paint the pegboard to give it a finished or decorative look.
Hooks will not fit into the holes on the pegboard properly if there is no gap between the pegboard and the wall.
