A well designed business card is your introduction to prospective clients. As such, the software you use to make your business cards should be easy to use and flexible enough to let you create a business card that accurately reflects your business the way you need it to. Desktop publishing software is often overkill for the simple process of designing and printing business cards. Thankfully, there are dedicated programs available for designing and creating professional business cards.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Business card software
  • Business card stock
  • Printer
  1. Step 1

Choose a dedicated business card program. Business Card Designer Plus and Business Card and Logo Creator are two excellent choices. Both are reasonably priced and include plenty of templates and features to help you design professional business cards. Business Card Designer Plus is cheaper and offers a free trial. Both products work nearly the same way.

  2. Step 2

Open your business card software and choose to create a new design using the design wizard. The default is for standard business cards that will print ten to a sheet. The design wizard options will open. You can start with a blank and create your card from scratch or choose one of the numerous categorized templates that have design elements such as artwork and font design in place, waiting for you to replace the template text with your personal text.

  3. Step 3

Open a blank template. Go to the "Tool" menu and select the "Text" option. A text box will appear and you can type your name or the name of your business. Select your text and use the property editor to choose the font you want for your text.

  4. Step 4

Add an image to your card by going to the "Tool" bar and selecting the "Picture" option. Resize the picture and place it anywhere you want it, then use the "Alignment" menu to send the picture to front or back, depending on whether you want it behind or on top of the text.

  5. Step 5

Preview your business card to see how it will look on card stock, then purchase Avery standard business card stock in the color or texture of your choice. Print your professional, custom business cards right at home.
