How to Sleep in a Cargo Trailer

In the event that you find yourself without a house or other place to live in, you can try to live inside a cargo trailer. Cargo trailers are usually attached to trucks to transport objects around, but most are enclosed, meaning they can provide emergency shelter to you while you are homeless. With a quick setup, you can also sleep in the trailer as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on a place in the trailer you want you put your sleeping bag or cot. Consider placing it at the front of the trailer to keep it out of the way of foot traffic or objects.

    • 2

Secure the bag or cot in place by placing heavy objects next to the bed. Do not place objects next to the bag or cot that could fall on you. Boxes with heavy objects will work fine here.

    • 3

Place a comforter or thick blanket over the sleeping bag or cot for added comfort. You should also include a pillow to rest your head on.

    • 4

Pack up the bag or cot when you need to move the trailer, in order to minimize any damage to it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the sleeping device you plan to use is comfortable for you.

  • Consider stacking the cot or sleeping bag on top of boxes or other objects so that you are not sleeping on the floor.

  • Never try to sleep in a cargo trailer while the trailer is moving.

  • Make sure the door is open at least partially while you sleep, and that you can open the trailer from the inside even if it's locked.
