How to Make a Photo Diffuser
Avoid the washed out, overly shiny look of your camera's flash bulb by creating a photo diffuser. A diffuser creates the illusion of a wider, more even light source to give pictures a more natural look by spreading the light around. Create a simple, cheap and effective diffuser using nothing more than an empty cigarette box.
Instructions
-
-
1
Empty the cigarette box.
-
2
Carefully remove the foil lining from the box of cigarettes. You are going to need this, so avoid tearing it.
-
-
3
Reverse the foil, so that the shiny part is facing inward.
-
4
Replace the foil into the container, shiny side facing in.
-
5
Cut open the bottom of the container, if you haven't already done so.
-
6
Slide the bottom of the container over your camera's flash. Adjust the lid as needed for your desired effect. If you are opposed to the idea of using a cigarette box, see Resources for more, equally simple diffuser options.

Tips & Warnings
Experiment with different positions of the lid, turn the box completely around or use containers with gold-colored foil for varied effects.
Cigarettes should only be purchased and consumed by person of legal age. Smoking is harmful to your health. Don't pick up the habit just to make a cheap diffuser.
