You decided to change or update your style and opted for a temporary hair color. Unfortunately, the results were not what you expected. What do you do? Can you lighten temporary hair color?
Hair color is classified as temporary, semi-permanent, demi-permanent, and permanent. Temporary hair color can be in the form of a rinse, spray or mousse. It washes out with one shampoo. Most people wanting temporary hair color opt for semi-permanent or demi-permanent hair color. Semi-permanent color shampoos out of the hair in six to twelve shampoos without leaving a regrowth line. The color fades or lightens with each shampoo. Demi-permanent color lasts for 12 to 24 shampoos. Like semi-permanent color, it fades and lightens with each shampoo.

Tips & Warnings
Temporary, semi-permanent and demi-permanent hair colors do not lighten your natural hair color. Once they are shampooed out, your natural hair color will not be altered. Permanent hair colors can lighten your natural shade but do not shampoo out.
Excessive use of demi-permanent hair color can cause a buildup of color on the hair. This buildup can be difficult to remove. Use a clarifying shampoo. If you are unable to shampoo the color out of your hair, seek help from a professional to have the color lightened or corrected.
