  1. Step 1

Plant your feet shoulder width apart.

  2. Step 2

Keep your arms at your sides. If you stand with your elbows out to your sides, you're liable to have a foul called against you.

  3. Step 3

Allow your teammate to lead the defender to you.

  4. Step 4

Give the defender a chance to see you. Do not blindside her or him.

  5. Step 5

Stand your ground without leaning into the defender or throwing a hip.

Tips & Warnings
  • Good things happen when you set a pick correctly. Karl Malone and John Stockton have carved out Hall of Fame careers with good picks.
  • Occasionally, a defender will attempt to run through your pick. Sometimes sacrificing your body for the team means shooting free throws.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity.

on 3/8/2006 When you set a pick, make sure you don't move at all! Plant your feet and don't move. Make sure that the player can't get through a gap you could make if you're not close enough.
