How to Add Sound to Screen Savers

Most computers come with several pre-installed screen savers. These screen savers will get the job done, but are basic images that may not be pleasing to the computer's owner. If you would like to create your own custom screen savers, this can be done by using a screen saver software. With the right screen saver software, not only can you add your own images to your screen, but you can also add sound to them.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install "Picture and Sound Show" (See Resources for link). This free software is one of the only available programs that handles both image and sound in screen savers.

    • 2

Open the "Picture and Sound Show" under the "Start" menu. Go to "Control Panel" and select "Display." Go to the "Screensaver" tab and scroll through the available screen savers to find "Picture and Sound Show." Click the "Settings" button to open the program.

    • 3

Upload pictures to the slide show on the "Pictures" tab. Click "Add" and browse for the folder where the pictures are located on your computer, then click on the picture you want to add to highlight it and click "Open" to pull it into the program. Use the "Folder" button to add an entire folder of pictures at the same time. Added pictures will be shown in the "Picture Files" window.

Add sound files to the project by going to the "Sound" tab and clicking "Add." Browse your hard drive for the sound files that you would like to add to the program and click "Open." There is a "Folder" button available on the "Sound" tab, as well, for adding an entire folder of sound files at one time. The added audio files will appear in the "Sound Files" window.

    • 5

Edit the picture and sound files together into a slide show on the "Picture Options" and "Sound Options" screens. Select the positioning of pictures on the screen, the size and the interval between images on "Picture Options," and select the audio sequence, length of audio clips or sync the audio up to the image files on the "Sound Options" screen.

    • 6

Click "OK" at the bottom of the screen once the screen saver is edited, and the "Create Screensaver" dialog box will appear. Type a name for the screen saver in the "Screen saver name" box and click "Create" to make the screen saver.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sound can be added to an existing screen saver by pulling the screen saver into the program as an image file and then adding audio files on the sound tab.
