How to Sterilize Pots & Pans

If your pots and pans have been through the ringer, you will want to sanitize them. Pots and pans can be expensive and not easily replaced. Instead of throwing them out, follow a few easy steps to kill any contaminants on the items and get them back in the kitchen where they belong. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Contaminated pots and pans
  • Dish-washing soap
  • Plastic scrubbing brush
  • Large pot
  • Stove
  • Water
  • Bleach
  • Bucket
  • Clean towel

Instructions

  1. Clean

    • 1

      Take apart pots and pans with multiple pieces. Remove handles and lids.

      Fill a sink or bucket with warm soapy water.

      Scrub each pot or pan with a plastic brush to remove all dirt or grime.

      Leave soaking if dirt is irremovable.

    Bleach Method

      Fill a bucket with a gallon of water and one tablespoon of bleach.

      Submerge pots and pans in the bucket for ten minutes.

      Rinse thoroughly with clear, clean water and let air dry on clean towels.

    Boil Method

      Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil.

      Submerge pots and pans in boiling water for five minutes.

      Remove and let air dry on clean towels.
