Treat Pregnancy Constipation Naturally

Pregnancy constipation affects most women off and on during most stages of pregnancy. There are several factors that may cause this uncomfortable back up, such as; increased and changing hormones, poor diet, dehydration, stress as well as the increased pressure due to an ever growing fetus and uterus. However, this uncomfortable condition is most often nothing to be concerned with. It is often a regular occurrence that can naturally be dealt with by following the steps outlined below.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Drink the recommended amount of water over the course of your day – every day. Dehydration is one of the top causes of pregnancy constipation. While pregnancy your body is going through some pretty major changes and staying hydrated becomes more and more important especially when it is being used to fuel two bodies.

  2. Step 2

Increase your daily fiber intake to help deal with pregnancy constipation. You can achieve this by increasing the amount of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grain foods, beans and fiber supplements that you incorporate into your everyday diet. (Be sure you are drinking plenty of water which is very important with added fiber)

  3. Step 3

Staying active is another way that you can naturally help alleviate and prevent pregnancy constipation. Mild exercises such as swimming, walking and yoga can help keep your digestive system functioning properly and regularly.

  4. Step 4

Avoid holding it in. When you feel the pressure that alerts you to an impending bowel movement then take the time to use the restroom. Holding it in can be uncomfortable and will increase your chances of becoming constipated.

  5. Step 5

Try a glass or two a day of 100% natural juice of your choice such as prune juice, apple juice or pear juice to help treat your pregnancy constipation. If juice does not bode well with you or you are sensitive to straight juice you can do as you would with some children and try drinking it diluted with some water.

  6. Step 6

Reduce your iron intake to help lessen the chance of constipation. During pregnancy often it is recommended that you take an iron supplement, however iron can cause you to become constipated. – Talk with your physician before reducing or stopping your iron supplements.
