In the Philippines many Filipino people consider pork tocino with eggs and rice to be a breakfast staple but sadly in many localities outside the Philippines tocino can be hard to find. If you have been missing the taste of tocino but cant find it your your area do not worry as tocino can be readily had by utilizing very common ingredients that you can find in any American grocery store.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Lbs Pork Butt
  • 3/4 Cup Sprite
  • 1 Tsp Pepper
  • 3 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 3 Drops Red Food Coloring
  1. Step 1

Cut the pork butt in 1/4 inch wide strips. In this step do not trim off the fat but rather just cut it as is and place it in a container.

  2. Step 2

Combine all other ingredients in a mixing bowl. During this step you can add more or less red food coloring to adjust the coloring to your liking.

  3. Step 3

Put the meat in the bowl with the above marinate and stir it around so that every bit of meat gets covered by the marinate.

  4. Step 4

Cover the mixture of meat and marinate and place in the refrigerator and store it for 24 hours to 5 days. I recommend 3 days in order to let the flavors to fully permeate the meat.

  5. Step 5

After letting it sit in refrigerator for your required length of time all that is left to do is get it out and either cook it or freeze it for future use.
