New York Times Square

New York Times Square is one of the most expensive parts of the city; however, it is also one of the most exciting parts of the city to visit. If you would like to spend some time in New York Times Square without having to empty your wallet, this article should give you some good ideas.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bring a picnic. If you've never been two New York Times Square, or even if it's been a couple of years, you might be surprised to hear that the city has closed off part off Broadway to vehicular traffic. You can borrow some of the beach chairs that the city lends to the public and have a picnic. Now New York Times Square gives you the chance to spend a day relaxing for free and enjoying a nice lunch in the middle of the busiest place on earth!

  2. Step 2

Check out the lobby of the Marriott Marquis in New York Times Square. I know this one sounds weird, but it has an amazingly tall atrium and it's a pretty nice place to enjoy a drink or just take in the sights for the afternoon. You don't have to be a guest or spend any money to look around the lobby or ride in the glass elevators that zip up and down the middle of the enormous atrium.

  3. Step 3

Check out the TKTS booth in the middle of New York Times Square. This one is for people who enjoy being spontaneous. The TKTS ticket booth offers deeply discounted tickets to Broadway plays, but you can only buy tickets for performances on the same day. Obviously, if you have a specific play that you are dying to see, this isn't the choice for you, but if you'd just like to take a chance and see a Broadway play at a deep discount while you are in New York Times Square, this is a great way to do it.

  4. Step 4

Go to B.B. King Blues club on 42nd St. on Friday and Saturday nights for free blues music. It's only a half block from New York Times Square. Just tell the person at the door that you want to see the music in Lucille's lounge, and he'll direct you to the free lounge downstairs. Even though this is a free activity, they manage to attract some of the best blues acts around!
