Step 1
Check out Summer Stage. Some of the most exciting free New York activities are planned every year as part of the free New York Summer Stage series. These concerts are held outdoors in Central Park and usually attract a wide variety of acts. This is a great way to spend a free New York summer day. You can even bring a picnic so that you don't have to spend any money on food. I've included a link to the Summer Stage website in the Resources section below.

Step 2
If the weather is not good enough for an outdoor concert, hit the Museum of Modern Art on a Friday afternoon. The MOMA is one of New York City's most expensive museums, but on every Friday afternoon, they let the public into the museum for free. This is truly a great opportunity to get some free New York entertainment in one of the best museums on the planet.

Step 3
On Friday and Saturday nights, you can hit the B.B. King Blues Club on 42nd street for some free New York Blues Music. The club has long lines and expensive tickets to see its marquee concerts, but what most people don't know is that on Friday and Saturday nights, you can tell the bouncer that you are just going to sit in the lounge, and walk straight down the stairs for free. You will be able to watch free New York Blues music in the lounge (called Lucille's) to your left.
