Is this pineapple ripe?
Is this pineapple ripe?

Fresh pineapple is delicious fruit, low in fat and packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber. It's a very good source of Vitamin C, and is relatively low in calories for the amount of good nutrition it packs.

It's not easy, though, to pick a ripe pineapple unless you know what you're doing. This article will show you the simple steps to picking a delicious, juicy pineapple every time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

GO FOR THE GOLD. Look for a pineapple with a goldish-brown body color. Don't choose a green one. It's not ripe yet.

  2. Step 2

LOOK FOR GREEN LEAVES. The leaves of the pineapple should be green and fresh-looking, not brown and dried out.

  3. Step 3

SMELL THE BOTTOM. Probably the best test for picking a ripe pineapple is to turn it upside down and smell the bottom. Does it smell pineapple-y fresh? If so, bag it up and take it home for a juicy, nutritious feast!

on 11/24/2009 I leave the produce selection to my husband, he is into touching the pineapple...firm but not hard and never too soft or too green, with a fresh scent...your tips are useful and I will share them with him.
