For many years, I would wake up every morning feeling as though I hadn't even been to bed. This is common with many Americans these days, with all of the stress and anxiety in our lives. Here are some tips on how I have changed my bedtime rituals...they have really helped me and I hope they will help you too.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • black-out shades
  • air conditioner/heater
  1. Step 1

Our bodies have an internal clock so keep your bedtime routine the same. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday. Even if you stay up late on occasion, don't try to make up the lost sleep the next morning.

  2. Step 2

Keep your bedroom dark and cool. Try using black-out shades if the sun wakes you too early in the morning. Also try to keep the temperature in your bedroom at 74 degrees or lower.

  3. Step 3

Turn your alarm clock around backwards when you go to bed. This will keep you from staring at the clock and worrying about how long its taking you to fall asleep.

  4. Step 4

Most people fall asleep within 20 minutes of going to bed, if you are having trouble going to sleep, get out of bed. Try doing something that is not too stimulating to help you tire-out. One of the things I do is work on a jigsaw puzzle.

  5. Step 5

If you have pets, don't let them sleep with you. Make them their own bed on the floor.
