Make a Halloween Leftover Pie

After about a week of looking at my children's leftover Halloween candy I am already ready to throw most of it away! I know that I am not the only parent out there to subtly decrease the hoard of candy that appears in my house every October 31st. Instead of just tossing it, however, I came up with an idea a few years ago to use some of the better candies and a few extra ingredients to make a Halloween Leftover Pie. This is fun to make, and your kids may get into the fun too, by helping decorate it, or helping you bake it!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ingredients listed in instructions
  1. Step 1

    Ingredients:
1 Graham Cracker Pie Crust (store bought is fine, but it is easy to make one)
1 14 oz. bag mini marshmallows
Approximately 20 pieces of leftover chocolate Halloween candy (mix it up!)
A few pieces of leftover Halloween colorful candies for decorating the top

  2. Step 2

First, start by preheating your over to 350 degrees. If you are using a store bought pie shell, follow the package instructions for thawing or preheating if necessary.

  3. Step 3

Unwrap your chocolate Halloween candy. I have used in the past many different kinds of leftover candy, and some work better than others. I have used Hershey Bars with and without almonds, Almond Joys, Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers and Milky Way Bars all in the same pie! Feel free to use whatever you like here, but be aware that not all candy will melt the same way, and some candies have harder centers, (like Butterfingers or Kit Kats), and they may not work well in the pie. Put these into your pie shell!

  4. Step 4

Bake you chocolate in the pie shell for about 10-15 minutes or until the chocolate is melted.

  5. Step 5

Remove pie from the oven and top with the marshmallows. Bake again for about 15-20 minutes until the marshmallows are melted and start to brown on top. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Now the fun part! Decorate the top of this gooey masterpiece with assorted colored candies like Sweet Tarts, M&M's, Dots or Nerds! The pie will look different (and taste different!) every year.

  7. Step 7

Put the pie back in the refrigerator to cool completely. Slice it and serve it! This will last as long as you can continue to look at it in your fridge. Have fun!

on 12/5/2009 I don't know... is this pie made from leftover Halloween candy just an excuse to turn it into something for adults to eat? :-)
