Others may be using what they think is every available inch, but with a bit of reorganization and a few storage solutions, they would have plenty of space to spare. Instructions

    • 1

      Empty your closet.

    • 2

Donate or throw away unnecessary or unused items and clothing. If you have room under your bed, transfer some of the remaining items into an under-bed box.

    • 3

Place a small desk and chair in the emptied closet, on one side, the study side.

    • 4

Set up your light. Add any shelving, computer equipment or other materials that you want your study area to have. If you don't have a power outlet in your closet, you will need a power strip and an extension cord.

    • 5

Install shelving, over-the-door storage, hooks, a second clothing rod and use boxes to maximize storage on the closet side if necessary. Replace the stored items in the closet, giving the study area at least a foot clearance. Clearly label anything that is not completely visible.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider using different color schemes for the two sides, such as using light colors for the storage side furniture and dark colors for the study side furniture.

  • Keep both areas organized at all times to preserve the demarcation between them. If using an extension cord keep it against the wall to prevent tripping.
