How to Make a Free Word Find
-
1
Decide on a theme for your word find. If it is near a holiday, birthday or anniversary use that special day for the theme. Write down as many words as possible for that theme and select 15 to 25 of them.
-
2
Write the longest word down on your graph paper, putting each of the letters in one square on a sheet of the graph paper. You can write it up, down, forward, backward or diagonally.
-
-
3
Add all the words from your list, one at a time, to the graph paper. They may cross and link, sharing common letters with other words, or they may be separate within the word search grid.
-
4
Insert extraneous letters into the graph where you see blank spaces. Use uncommon extra letters for an easier puzzle and letters matching some of the letters in your words for a more difficult word find puzzle.
-
5
Transfer your work into a document on your computer. Key in the letters you have written on the graph paper going across each line, skipping a space between and below each letter. Insert a title across the top. Put a list of all your puzzle words across the bottom. Print copies of your free word search puzzle pages.
