Instructions

  1. Using Two Tablecloths

    • 1

Place the largest tablecloth on the table, adjusting the sides so all hang evenly.

    • 2

Turn a smaller tablecloth so it is positioned in a diamond-shape on top of the larger tablecloth. Vintage square tablecloths originally made for small card tables and bridge tables, and larger size tea towels work well.

    • 3

Center the smaller tablecloth so that the "points" of the diamond are evenly positioned on the table top.

Using Three Tablecloths and a Possible Table Runner

    • 4

Place the largest tablecloth on the table, adjusting the sides so all hang evenly.

    • 5

Fold a smaller square tablecloth in half forming a triangle. Fold the second smaller square tablecloth in half forming a triangle.

    • 6

Determine the center of the table, and place the longer edges (the fold) of the two folded tablecloth triangles along the center invisible "line" so that the folds of the two folded tablecloths are touching.

    • 7

Adjust the "points" of the triangles that now form a diamond shape, so they are positioned evenly.

    • 8

Place the table runner over the folds/center of the tablecloths if an even more layered look is desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase vintage table linens online, at antique stores, flea markets and garage sales. You can find remarkable needlework on white cotton and linen as well as bold prints from the 1940s and 1950s. You can often find matching napkin and tablecloth sets from the 1960s as these were favorites then. If vintage is not your "thing," many retail brands feature the same tablecloths in different sizes or different colors and sizes of the same tablecloth. Cover up holes and blemishes such as stains on the table linens by folding the worn section under the triangle.
