Gravel driveways provide the best conditions for weeds to grow. Weeds aren't just unsightly; dry weeds that are tall enough could absorb heat from your car and catch fire.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Landscaping plastic
  • Boiling water
  • Vinegar
  • Liquid herbicide
  1. Step 1

Place some landscaping plastic down before refreshing the gravel in the driveway. Lay new gravel on top of the landscaping plastic so sunlight won't get to the soil, preventing weed growth.

  2. Step 2

Pour boiling water on the weeds in the driveway. Heat will make the weeds curl up and die. You may need to do this every time you see a weed.

  3. Step 3

Pour vinegar on the weeds to dry them out and kill them. The vinegar works as a soil sterilizer that kills all living microbes that help weeds grow. All weeds must be soaked with vinegar.

  4. Step 4

Use an organic herbicide to kill weeds. Liquid weed killer is effective for spot killing. Granules don't work as well in gravel driveways because the herbicide cannot penetrate the gravel.
