1
Wear sunscreen and avoid the sun on your face by wearing a hat whenever you are outdoors. The sun is the main cause of skin damage. Sunscreen needs to be applied every day, and often.

2
Use a paste of one part honey to two parts lemon juice to lighten brown age spots and freckles. Leave the paste on the affected area for 15 minutes, and use every day for 15 days.
Apply a fade cream or bleaching agent, such as hydroquinone, to lighten brown spots. Hydroquinone can be purchased over-the-counter at 2 percent strength. This strength of hydroquinone is adequate to lighten moderately dark spots.

Exfoliate your skin with an over-the-counter micro-dermabrasion kit. You will be able to gently slough off dead skin cells during this process. You can purchase exfoliation and micro-dermabrasion skin masks in the health and beauty section of most stores.

Consider fractional laser skin resurfacing to reduce the signs of aging, which removes the top layers of the skin, allowing the generation of collagen production and improving layers beneath the surface. At your appointment the technician will apply a topical anesthetic gel, which will cool and lubricate your skin. You may feel warm prickling sensations during the procedure as the technician moves the light wand over your face. Your skin may be red and swollen after the procedure, however, you can usually go to work the next day. Use ice packs on your skin for the next couple of hours to reduce your swelling and redness. Your skin will peel during the next week. Wear a moisturizer to minimize the appearance of peeling.

Consider a chemical peel to resurface and get rid of the brown patches on your face. Alphahydroxy acids, phenol or trychloroacetic acid peels are the most common, the phenol peel being the strongest. Ensure that a qualified dermatologist or technician performs the procedure. The skin on your face will probably be very red and raw. You may need to take some time off from work with this type of treatment.
