How to Make Decoupage Candle Holders

Producing a decoupage candle holder is an inexpensive way to add to your home's decor. You could also give one of these homemade crafts as a gift. Whatever the case, these decorative candle holders can be made in an afternoon and all of the supplies are relatively inexpensive and can be obtained at your local craft store.

Things You'll Need:

  • Glass candle holder
  • Window cleaner
  • Wrapping paper or magazine image
  • Cuticle scissors
  • Tissue paper
  • Decoupage glue
  • Candle
  1. Step 1

    Purchase a glass candle holder of any size at and decoupage glue at a craft store. Thrift stores are another good resource for candle holders.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a motif for your candle holder. It could be anything from a butterfly to a snowman; it just depends on your own taste or the recipient's taste if this candle holder is meant to be a gift.

  3. Step 3

    Cut out a picture of your chosen design with a pair of cuticle scissors. Thinner paper works best, like wrapping paper, but you could also remove a picture from a magazine or a greeting card.

  4. Step 4

    Clean the glass candle holder with window cleaner.

  5. Step 5

    Tear up several pieces of tissue paper into 1 inch squares. They do not have to be perfect and you can use different colors.

  6. Step 6

    Brush some decoupage glue over the first piece of tissue paper.

  7. Step 7

    Place the tissue paper onto the candle holder and brush more decoupage over it.

  8. Step 8

    Continue placing more decoupage covered pieces of tissue paper over the entire candle holder. Make sure that every inch of glass is completely covered.

  9. Step 9

    With your paint brush, spread one last layer of decoupage over the entire tissue-paper-covered candle holder.

  10. Step 10

    Allow the decoupage to dry for at least one hour.

  11. Step 11

    Brush a layer of decoupage glue over the back of your picture.

  12. Step 12

    Place the picture onto the candle holder and cover that with another layer of decoupage glue.

  13. Step 13

    Allow the decoupage to dry and then add another layer over the picture. Repeat this process two more times.

  14. Step 14

    Place a candle into your completed decoupage candle holder.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use a wet paper towel to gently wipe away any excess decoupage glue.
