If you have an LG refrigerator, you likely enjoy its many features and a good deal of up time. The appliance manufacturer is known for high-quality units. However, things go wrong with every appliance after some time. If you need to diagnose a problem with your refrigerator, you can do so simply by putting it into test mode.

To put your LG refrigerator in Test Mode 1, locate the "Freezer Temp" function. But keep in mind that some units have a dedicated "TEST" button. If yours is one of them, press the button for the amount of time indicated instead. Then, press the "Express Freezing" and "Colder" choices at the same time. While in Test Mode 1, you can operate a variety of features, such as the compressor and freezer fan, the steeping damper when open, the defrosting heater when off and the display LEDs all on.

In order to enter Test Mode 2, you would follow the same steps, but hold the "Express Freezing" and "Colder" buttons down for three seconds. In this mode, you will be able to perform diagnostic testing of the steeping damper when closed, the defrosting heater when off, and the display LEDs showing number 2.

Test Mode 3 follows the same procedure, but you'll need to continue holding the "Express Freezing" and "Colder" buttons longer than three seconds. Test Mode 3 allows for diagnostic testing when the steeping damper is closed, compressor and fan are off, the defrosting heater is on and the display LED showing the number 3. Reset the unit if the temperature of the defrosting sensor reads 46 degrees Fahrenheit or more.

Reset LG Refrigerators

Once in Test Mode 3, you can reset your LG refrigerator if needed. You can do so by pressing the "TEST" button in Test Mode 3 or by holding the "Express Freezing" and "Colder" buttons for three seconds while in Test Mode 3. Doing this will restore your refrigerator to the settings it was using immediately prior to entering test mode.

Once you are out of the LG refrigerator diagnostic mode, you will have a better sense for whether the appliance is working properly or if you need an LG refrigerator repair. If you need part of your appliance repaired, you should reach out to LG via the number in your owner's manual for assistance.

Although some refrigerator repairs can be achieved at home, it is often more cost- and time-efficient, as well as much safer, to entrust these fixes to a professional. LG can help to arrange repairs for you or you can contact your local appliance technician.

Refrigerator Repair Safety

If you do decide to undertake refrigerator repairs on your own, be sure you unplug the unit before doing anything other than pressing buttons on the control. Never manipulate parts of the unit while power is live. You can even turn power off at the circuit breaker box to be on the safe side.
