Alhtough frequent bleaching will ruin your wood, if you have ink or finish stains on your wood flooring, it may be the only option. Use caution as you bleach your wood for these stains. A bleach spot is irreversible and will require re-staining or replacement of your entire floor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bleach
  • Cleaning brush
  1. Step 1

Pour a small amount of bleach, straight from the bottle, onto the stain. Although most cleaning uses for bleach call for dilution, this is one instance where dilution will actually do more harm than good as it will oxidize the wood.

  2. Step 2

Use a cleaning brush to scrub the bleach into the wood. Once you see the stain starting to lift, stop immediately to prevent the wood from changing color.

  3. Step 3

Dampen a small cloth and rinse off the bleach by wiping up the moisture. You will need to rinse the cloth frequently to prevent any bleach from being accidentally reapplied to the floor.

  4. Step 4

Go over the area with a damp mop. Although most of the bleach should be off the floor after the rinsing with the cloth, running over the surface again with a damp mop will ensure that you don't leave any trace amounts of bleach.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not clean your floor with anything else during the 24 hours before bleaching. Other cleaning substances mixed with bleach can create toxic fumes.
