How to Customize Graphics & Logos

A logo is an important brand decision for a business or even for personal use, right along with a name -- it is the first thing people will use to identify you. Logos are used on fliers, ads, websites and business cards. A logo should be simple, yet stand out in the crowd and represent you or your business in the best possible way. You can easily edit and customize your own logo to ensure it is satisfactory.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a free graphic or photo from the internet. Make sure that anything you download for use is royalty free. This tells you that you can customize that graphic or picture and use it in any way that you want. If you download something that is registered or licensed, you will need to give credit to the original creator.

    • 2

Open your graphic editing program. If you don't have one, you can download a free one from the internet (See Resource 3). Open the base image that you are going to use inside the program and re-size it to your liking or crop if necessary. Your logo should be large at first, so you will be able to shrink it later.

    • 3

Add effects with brushes, layers or edit the color and saturation. Use the 'fill' tool in the graphics to fill in areas will a solid color. Pick one or two colors that will make up your logo and no more than three. You want the logo to be quickly identified and if it is too busy or colorful, it will defeat the purpose.

    • 4

Add the name of whatever or whomever the logo will be representing. Take into account that where you logo will be going. Make sure that the details won't be lost when you shrink the logo to be placed on business cards and other small media. Simple is key.
