How to Throw a Photo Portrait Party
For years, people have relied on product parties to get their message out. Everything from plastic containers to fine jewelry is being sold in living rooms. It has proven to be a great way to network and create relationships that lead to sales. Incorporate this idea into your photography business and have a party featuring individual or group portraits. With renewed interest in the art, it pays to go to new and creative ways to market your business.

1
Think of a few friends who have the space to accommodate several guests and ask the first one to be a hostess. Let her know that this will involve a display area for your work, seating for your guests and some assistance from the hostess during the party. Go through your list of friends until you get a favorable reply.
-
2
Put together a list of friends to invite. Send invitations out early so those you invited will have plenty of time to RSVP. Ask them to bring their favorite makeup, accessories and any attire they might want to be seen wearing in a photograph.

-
3
Ask your hostess to have some appetizers available. Keep them to a minimum so your guests aren't distracted from the picture taking activities. Arrive early on the appointed day and set up your equipment in the designated area.
-
4
Display your work in a prominent place. Arrange the seating in an area around your work and have your photo portfolios on hand for guests to peruse (long with some business cards). While guests are waiting for their photo op, have the hostess help with hair and makeup.
-
5
Have a photo shoot with each woman. After each person has had their photo taken, present her with a small proof and a breakdown of your prices and available services. Take appointments for family portraits. Present your hostess with a complimentary sitting and offer the same to anybody else who is willing to host a party.
