How to Wear an Eye Patch
The Prevent Blindness America organization claims that most individuals are forced to wear an eye patch because of a condition called amblyopia, which is commonly referred to as a "lazy eye." Eye patches are used to make a lazy eye work harder and train itself to see like a healthy eye. Eye patches are also worn after eye injury or eye surgery.

Tips & Warnings
Wearing an eye patch can be frustrating and stigmatizing for individuals, especially children, when used for treatment of a lazy eye. The Prevent Blindness America foundation suggests that children engage in activities while wearing an eye patch to divert their attention. CIGNA, a company that provides global health services, suggests strategies to help your child effectively treat a lazy eye while wearing an eye patch, including talking to the child about the condition, setting rules and consequences regarding wearing the eye patch, giving the child more one-on-one attention when the eye patch is worn and decorating the eye patch for the child.
If you wear eye glasses over an eye patch, take care with the elastic band. Complications can arise if the elastic band is wrapped around the glasses' earpiece.
