How to Properly Place Your Eating Utensils
If you are planning a fancy dinner party, silverware placement is very important in detailing a eloquent dinner. There are a ton of rules of etiquette; however, silverware placement has a standard. Things You'll Need
- Service Plate
- Soup bowl
- Service knife
- Fish knife
- Soup spoon
- Salad fork
- Dinner fork
- Fish fork
- Napkin
- Dessert spoon and cake fork
- Bread and butter plate
- Butter knife
- Water glass
- White wine
- Red wine

Place the service plate (or dinner plate) on the table directly in front of the chair where the guest will sit. Place the soup bowl directly on top of the service plate.

Starting at the right of the service plate, set down the service knife, followed by the fish then, then the soup spoon. Both knives blades should facing into the plate.

Starting at the left of the service plate, set down the salad fork, followed by the dinner fork, then the fish fork. Place the napkin on the left of the fish fork. Fold the napkin in half before setting down.

Place the dessert spoon and cake fork directly above the service plate. First, place the cake fork above the service plate, then the dessert spoon above the cake fork.

Set the bread and butter plate on the table directly to the left of the dessert spoon and cake fork. Place the butter knife across the bread and butter plate with the knife blade pointing to the left.

Place the water glass to the right of the dessert spoon. On a downward angle, place the white wine glass next to the water glass, followed by the red wine glass.
