1
Measure your windows to buy the correct sized vinyl shade. Measure three dimensions: width, length and depth. Use the inside of the window frame to get your measurements. After buying the shade, install the hardware for it, following the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
-
2
Unroll the shade on the floor or on a working surface, such as a table. Check to make sure you have the side of the shade that will face the room up.

3
Measure and cut your fabric to fit the shade. Leave two inches excess on both the sides and the bottom. So if your shade measures 60 inches wide and 60 inches long, cut the fabric 64 by 62 inches to allow for the overlapping fabric needed.
-
4
Spray the shade with adhesive and place the fabric over it; press and work out any wrinkles. Be careful to place the fabric as straight as possible. Try to avoid wrinkles if you can.
-
5
Turn the shade over and cut diagonal slits in the corners of the overlapping fabric. This allows you to fold it up for the corners.
-
6
With the shade still turned over, apply fabric glue along the edges and secure the overlap. Let the shade dry following the recommended time with the glues used.
-
7
After drying, use a needle and thread to apply additional support on the ends and the middle of the fabric edges. A few stitches in each location should be enough.
-
8
Use the glue to place the upholstery cord or ribbon across the lower edge, then add a few stitches for support.

Tips & Warnings
If you want an extra decorative touch, you can sew on a tassel.
If your edges are a bit rough or uneven, trim them off, carefully, with the scissors. Then glue ribbon up the sides to cover the cuts. Be sure not to cut the shade.
