How to Grow Mold for a Science Fair Project
Growing mold is easy, especially if you are doing it on purpose. Mold growth is determined by three main factors: temperature, moist conditions, and the source of nutrients on an organic substance. Mold can grow on everything from fruits and vegetables to bread. Using bread as a base to grow your mold for a science project is probably the quickest and easiest since most of the tools you need are already household items.

Growing Mold
-
1
Use a cotton swab to collect dust from around the house. (Make sure you are wearing gloves before starting this experiment).
-
2
Rub the dirty end of the cotton swab on a piece of bread. Fill the eye dropper with water and place 5 to 6 drops of water on the bread.

3
Put the soiled bread into a zip lock bag. Place the bag (with the bread in it) in a milk carton. This works best when there is still a little bit of milk left in the carton. Seal the milk carton with tape.
-

Leave the bread untouched for up to two days. When you remove the bread from the carton, you will notice that mold has begun to grow on the bread.
