How to Disinfect a Wooden Floor

Your wooden floor sees it all---kids spilling soft drinks, pets soiling the surface and visitors walking on the surface day and night. You try to keep the wood floor clean, but what about disinfecting the wood flooring? Germs and odors invade your wood flooring if you don't disinfect it properly. You don't need a commercial disinfectant. All you need is some white vinegar and a mop to keep the germs and odors at bay. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Latex gloves
  • Bucket
  • Warm water
  • White vinegar
  • Spoon
  • Spray bottle
  • Funnel
  • Clean mop
  • Dry clean cloth or towel

Instructions

      Mix in a bucket ¾ cup of warm water and ¼ cup of white vinegar. Agitate the mixture with a spoon.

      Use a funnel to pour the vinegar/water solution into a spray bottle. Pour the mixture carefully to keep from spilling it.

      Spray the vinegar/water solution lightly on to a clean mop.

      Mop your wood floor with the vinegar/water solution. Work in sections if the floor is large. When the mop starts to get dry, spray some more solution on it.

      Dry any spills or damp spots with a clean dry cloth or towel.

Tips & Warnings

  • For areas where your pets have had accidents on the wood flooring, scrub the area with a little pressure to remove any set-in germs and odors. Dry the area with a clean dry cloth or towel.
