How to Eat Healthy When You Have a Thryoid Problem
There are two main types of thyroid problems, stemming either from sluggish thyroid activity, as in hypothyroidism, or excessive thyroid activity, as in hyperthyroidism. If you are suffering from from hypothyroidism, you probably tend to gain weight easily and a diet that improves thyroid function could help you to control thyroid related weight gain. If you are prone to hyperthyroidism, or Graves disease, your body may have difficulty absorbing nutrients, so it is particularly important to eat a balanced diet with plenty of whole foods.

1
Eat foods rich in tyrosine if you suffer from hypothyroidism, or sluggish thyroid function. These include lean meat, chicken and fish as well as low fat dairy products, lentils, seeds such as pumpkin and sesame seeds, and avocados and bananas.

2
Avoid excessive consumption of vegetables in the brassica family if you are prone to hypothyroidism because they tend to further impede thyroid function. These include cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and kale. Limit your consumption of soy if you take artificial thyroid hormone medication because it can interfere with the medicine's effectiveness.

Add plenty of nutrient rich organic foods to your diet if you suffer from hyperthyroidism, or Graves disease. Eat plenty of healthy fats, such as olive oil and omega-3 fatty acids, because these help your body to absorb nutrients. Limit iodine consumption by restricting your salt intake and avoid foods that contain seaweed.
