You need your WEP key (WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy, algorithm to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks) to add another wireless computer to your network, or to set up your iPhone for wireless access, or to set up a PS3, PSP, or any other gaming device where you need to access a server.

If you have Comcast as your ISP and a Gateway Router this is how you can get your WEP Key.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You must have access to the Internet so if you have been wireless you will need to hard-wire connect (via Ethernet or USB Cable) directly from your modem to your computer. Once you have a hard-wired connection to the Internet, open Internet Explorer or Firefox browser and clear everything out of your address bar, including http.

  2. Step 2

Type in your address bar: 192.168.0.1 and hit go or enter. You will get a User Name and Password screen. The User Name is comcast (lower case) and the Password is 1234.

  3. Step 3

Once logged in, you will get the Comcast Home Networking screen. Click on Gateway summary, then click on Wireless Security. You will see your WEP Key.
