Reduce your stress. Stress makes the symptoms of IBS worse. To see what your stress triggers are keep a journal of flare-ups and what was happening in your life at the time. When you see a pattern emerge, avoid the triggers when possible. If you cannot avoid the triggers use relaxation techniques such as imagery or biofeedback. Exercise helps to relieve stress and helps to reduce stress.
