How to Regrow Long African American Hair
African American hair requires more maintenance because it is naturally more dry and fragile than other hair types. If you are trying to grow your hair longer, or regrow hair you have lost, you will need to apply steady moisture and consistent gentle care. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

- Moisturizing shampoo
- Moisturizing conditioner

- Deep conditioning moisturizing hair treatment
- Wide-tooth comb
- Coconut oil

Instructions

1
Apply a hair moisturizer daily that lists water as its first ingredient. The moisturizer can be a cream or a spray.
-
2
Apply coconut oil before washing to seal in moisture. Plant-based oils do not suffocate the hair like petroleum/mineral oil products do. More moisture can get into the hair this way while the hair is protected from moisture loss.

3
Wash the hair once a week and no more than three times a week. Use a moisturizing shampoo and focus on the 2 to 3 inches of hair closest to the scalp. Apply a conditioner after each shampoo. Leave it on for three to five minutes, then use a wide-tooth comb on the hair.
-
4
Re-moisturize and oil the hair, then either let it air dry or blow-dry it using low to medium heat. Too much heat will dry out the moisture.
-
5
Place a sleep cap or scarf on your head when you sleep. This will keep the hair from rubbing against the pillow and breaking, and the cotton fabric will draw moisture from the hair.
-
6
Use deep conditioning treatments and protein treatments once a week in place of the normal conditioner. Apply a generous amount of the treatment, put a plastic shower cap on, then wait for at least 15 minutes (preferably 30 if you have time) before washing it out.
