How to Create a Beautiful Tuscan Kitchen Design

Tuscan home design is a popular choice because of its earthy colors and welcoming feel. This design style is inspired by the Tuscany region of Italy, which is known for its wines. When you are designing a Tuscan kitchen, include warm colors, plenty of textures and elements that will make your kitchen a functional space for your family.

1. Paint your walls in a color that is often seen in Tuscan fabrics and design, as well as the Tuscan landscape. For example, choose a deep shade of yellow, orange, green or brown. Take painting a step further with a faux finishing technique that will make your walls look like old plaster with lots of texture.

2. Choose stone flooring made with weathered-looking stone. Another idea is to choose weathered-looking hardwood for your flooring. Choose something that does not look brand new but looks as if it has been there for years or generations. Add some woven rugs in earth tones that will complement the color of the walls.

3. Select window treatments that will let plenty of light in. For example, choose billowing white fabric that will drape around the window or that you can tie back during the day.

4. Stain cabinets in a dark wood color. Or paint them a creamy white, and add a crackle or distressed finish so that the cabinets do not look brand new.

5. Add wrought iron touches to the room, such as cabinet pulls, chandeliers, sconces and wall decorations.

6. Choose earthy, natural materials, such as granite or marble, in an earth tone for counter tops.

7. Add Tuscan-inspired accessories, such as picture frames made of wine corks and a large picture of the Tuscan landscape, to complete the look of your kitchen. Displaying rustic ceramics is another fitting touch.
