How to Decorate Miniature Unpainted Birdhouses
Think of an unpainted birdhouse as a small blank canvas waiting to come to life with color and design. Depending on how much time you want to invest, you can decorate your birdhouse with just paint or embellish it with a variety of craft items. A birdhouse doesn't have to be displayed outdoors. Enhance the beauty of your home decor by placing a miniature birdhouse on a shelf, windowsill, or a fireplace mantle.

1
Prepare your work area. Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Protect the table or ground with a layer of newspaper or a small tarp. Set your birdhouse in the middle of your newspaper.
-
2
Use a sponge brush to paint your birdhouse with acrylic paints but do not paint the roof. Add an extra decorative touch of color by sponge painting with a lighter shade. Even a small rag that is bunched up and dipped in paint will create unique designs on your birdhouse.

3
Use a complimentary color to paint the roof and the trim with a small brush. For example, use pink paint to color the roof of a purple birdhouse. Allow paint to dry.
-
4
Use an acrylic spray sealer that will permanently protect the paint finish, if you are going to hang your birdhouse outside. Allow the sealer to dry thoroughly.
-
5
Create dots, diamonds, swirls, and other designs with stencils. Paint stripes or squares on the roof.
-
6
Use craft glue to attach embellishments such as lace, buttons, glitter, silk flowers, and feathers.
