If you are interested in adding a new element to your home décor, consider a floor vase. Floor vases are extremely useful when it comes to decorating bare floor space, accenting a wall or sprucing up an empty corner. If you want to make a real statement with your floor vase, try decorating it to make it stand out even more. You can choose between permanent or temporary decorations for your vase, depending on how often you like to change your style.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Floor vase
  • Decals
  • Acrylic paint
  • Fillers
  1. Step 1

Consider your current room décor when choosing the way in which you want to decorate your floor vase. You may think painting the vase to look like an antique would be a neat idea, but if your home is ultra modern, the vase will not fit in with the rest of your decorations. Select a style to decorate your vase the coincides with the current style of your home.

  2. Step 2

Decide on how permanent you want your vase decorations to be. This will help guide the type of decorating you choose. If you change decorations in your home with the changing seasons, you may want to be able to easily change the décor of your floor vase by using decals to decorate it. Otherwise, consider painting your vase for a more permanent design.

  3. Step 3

Decorate with decals to create a unique semi-permanent design. Decals come in a great variety of shapes, sizes and colors and can be easily added to and removed. Visit a craft store and check out the variety of decals that they carry. Purchase the decals of your choosing and take them home. Press the decals onto your floor vase in any pattern you like. The decals can be easily moved while you decide on the type of pattern or design you like best. When you are satisfied with your design, rub your hand over the decals to make sure they adhere smoothly to the vase.

  4. Step 4

Paint your floor vase for a permanent decorative design. Select a color that complements the colors of your home. If your home is painted in warm colors such as shades of brown, choose warm colors for you vase, as well. Bring a swatch of your wall color to a craft store and match it to an acrylic paint color that it either matches or is complimentary. Place your vase on newspaper when you are ready to paint. Paint the vase a solid color with the acrylic paints using a brush or create a pattern by painting circles, stripes or your own unique design.

  5. Step 5

Fill your vase to complete its look. Fill your floor vase the old-fashioned way, with water and long-stemmed flowers such as sunflowers. For a look that requires less upkeep, visit a local craft store and check out the variety of fillers available for large floor vases. You will be able to find all types of fillers from fake flowers to long feathers. Choose a filler that compliments the decor of your vase and your room.
