How to Manage Working a Night Shift
Typically a company will have three shifts. These include a morning, afternoon and night shift. The third shift normally goes into the next day and possibly longer, depending on how the hours break down. For someone who is not used to working a night shift, it can be a difficult adjustment. However, after your body adjusts and you learn a few techniques, you will be able to manage working a night shift.

1
Get plenty of rest. Make sure you go to sleep within the first few hours after you come home. If you do not get enough sleep during the day, it will be easier to get tired during your shift. Get darker colored window blinds to block out the sun if you have trouble sleeping.
-
2
Eat a decent-sized meal before the start of your shift, and pack enough for your break. Make sure you eat nutritious foods so that you have enough energy to do your shift.

3
Listen to a Walkman or MP3 player. Ask your supervisor if you are allowed to do this. This is a method to cover up the music from the company's speakers.
-
4
Talk with your co-workers. By talking it will be harder for you to fall asleep. The time also seems to go by faster when you talk to someone.
-
5
Focus and do your job. Get into a Zen-like state and become one with your craft. You will find that when you become lost in your work it becomes less of a burden.
